The Department of Defense (in Washington) takes one non-profit quite seriously. The Society for Creative Anachronism is a large, international re-enactment company that trains it's members in the arts of the 1700's. Due to it's large scale mock battles, the SCA, as it is known, has membership numbers that are now overpowering the US Military. While not listed as a terrorist organization, they are;
"A force of concern", said a security expert of US based MES Security Group in Nasheville, TN. Speaking only after a request of anonmity;
"The government of the US sees this as a concern because this is still a fighting force, much bigger than anyone had previously imagined. The main concern for the US is that this structure is not based on our system of governance and is outside the control of any US based governing department."
Due to the reduction in US Armed Forces, the War in Iraq and National Guard response to Mexican troops being deployed to the US/Mexico border - the organization that was previously dubbed the fourth largest standing army (because, yes, they can fight) in America as a joke, has now become the largest army in North America.
Even the sum total of the all the police, law enforcement and speciality security service people does not equal the new largest standing army in America - the Society for Creative Anachronism.
