Compost is great for fertilizer and is far easier to make than most people thing. It helps to have a tumbling composter though, that way you can move around the compost inside to help it break down. I've tried both the tumbling composter and the pile method. Trust me, it's a lot easier to go out and turn a tumbler than it is to shovel a pile to get things mixed in better.
