Towards the end of 2010 and the beginning of 2011 our local news paper carried an article about severe cuts in the entire military community including all 16 intelligence agencies. MSNBC carried articles to this effect as well. Our local paper is far to the right. MSNBC leans left. So both the left and the right were talking this way. Both claimed it was going to be addressed in the House and Senate during the beginning of this year. Both sources claimed bipartisan support. Then suddenly complete silence. What happened? Did this war change things? Are they secretly continuing but not informing the public? The media has many times kept the public in the dark so I do not trust them. Many times an issue was covered up to blow up in our face when it no longer could be hidden because it hit main street. If you know more than I please fill me in.

Well, the silence isn't "totally" complete. .. Some people are still talking about it. The problem is now that so many people are backtracking talk of severe cuts because it might cost jobs in their home districts -- and you KNOW they're not going to support that. I did some checking around and found a few articles that were recent (within the last couple of weeks) on the subject. This is an editorial that I think was interesting: www.thenewamerican.com/index.php/usnews/foreign-policy/6604-can-we-cut-qdefenseq-spending ... All I'm sure of is that the whole system is pretty bloated, from military spending to congressional retirement packages. The one thing we can be sure of never facing a shortage of is BS. I'm certain the hot air coming out of Washington on any given day would provide enough thermal energy to cut the need for oil at least in half. Winds die down, and the sun hides behind clouds -- but the BS in Washington goes on forever.

Adona Mara Thanks for the link. I will have to check it out when I have more time to read it. That was funny about the fact the the one thing we can be sure of is the BS. That might help slow down our oil consumption. Use Washington BS. It is readily available too.

I got to read the link that you provided. That was really interesting. What an unlikely couple, Ron Paul and Barney Frank. This link gave me the idea that more than likely those cuts will not happen. I wonder if given more time will it happen. Like the next election cycle since both real conservatives and real liberals are for the cuts on the military. The reason I think it possible is the combination of Ron Paul with Barney Frank. That means those cuts cross the isle.
It could be that in 2012 that those cuts will pass so each side can face their constituency and say that they passed a bill that is conservative/ liberal. The politicians love a Bill that they can say they for-filled their promise. If it pleases both sides with little horse trading the better. This is just a guess. But I really enjoyed that article. It was very informative.
