I tested this out with my cellphone earlier. I made a crude envelope out of duct tape and aluminum foil, then had my wife call the cell. It rang, so she called it again when I had the phone in the envelope and it didn't ring. I pulled the phone out and she called it a third time, but this time as it was ringing, I put it in the envelope and the phone stopped ringing, but she still heard it ringing on her end.
I need to test it out some more and figure out what works the best and what the limits are to it. I can see potential uses for larger Faraday Cages, like protecting computers and phones from EMP, protecting sensitive devices from being intercepted while just laying around, etc.
