Otherwise known as the "E-Meter" used in Scientology to help balance people out. The machine itself is interesting and I can see a lot of potential uses for it, but I've never experienced using one myself. Click Here To See Blueprints

I think I remember running into some Scientologists a long time ago. They did have some sort of gizmo like that and were asking me all sorts of weird questions. Then they tried to convince me to take some strange quiz. They did. After that, they acted like I had some terrible disease for which they had the cure. The "cure" involves shelling out money. I decided then it was some sort of con and left. Later on, I heard nothing but negative news about Scientology. I would want to know from a neutral source if that thing really works. Did anyone ever smuggle one out? I looked it up in Wikipedia which gives a definition in more plain English. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E-meter

From what I've heard of it, it's basically a modified polygraph (lie-detector) machine, which Scientologists use to get people to balance themselves out by telling the truth on every question. I'm convinced that Scientology itself is a money making machine. L. Ron Hubbard himself once made the comment about religion being the way to become rich.
The way that I could see it being useful is essentially the same way in which they use it... to clear ourselves of not telling the truth. Although, I'm wondering if it would have a use in actually detecting the levels of energy that go through the body, or at least the changes in them, which might help someone learn to channel higher levels of energy. This isn't a sure theory, but it's one that I thought about. The things that you hold in your hand are used to pump an electrical current through the body. If that could be turned up and down to higher levels... those that would/could cause pain... then it might be used this way.
