It's been so long since I originally posted these as part of a longer post, that I forgot which book they came out of and apparently I didn't cite my source when I posted it at the UJ.

These are based on Tribal Values. These aren't based on "beliefs" as religions are, but upon customs and traditions.
Honor - keeping your word Loyalty - faithfulness in defense and support of your own Integrity - "walking our talk" Honesty - not lying, cheating, or stealing Respect - courtesy, consideration of others Fairness - being just and impartial to all Gratitude - thankful appreciation Hospitality - courtesy to guests and hosts Generosity - willingness to give and share Reverence - honoring that which is sacred Reciprocity - giving and receiving value for value Responsibility - accepting the consequences of actions Resourcefulness - ability to deal effectively with challenges Interdependence - cooperation; we're all in this together!

Ok, Myrrden, you have got to stop tapping in to my energy stream. I checked the date on this, and well, actually, I think I may have tapped into your energy stream because on this day, I was thinking about tribal values. All day long...
Hach and I went up to a local game shop that also sells movies, and I happened to find one of my favorite movies there-Battlefield Earth. Now, sure the book is way better, as is usually the case, but the movie did a pretty good job of illustrating the power of the human spirit and the necessity for interdependence amongst clansmen.
So, after I watched this, I had come up with a list of tribal values, and it was almost exactly like yours! What I don't like are people that claim that tribal values are no longer important because we no longer have to band together to survive because all of the wild animals are far away with actual tribal peoples now. I mean, what is it that these people are missing? Do they not see the need for 'tribal affiliation' at all?
I look at the family as a tribe, but also in that are the friends... not those acquaintances, mind you, but the real friends. Of course, our tribes are smaller nowadays, and we have less knowledge of tribal ways, I suppose, but maybe not... I don't know.
But, what I think about sometimes is how if something terrible came to pass-you know, something that wiped out life as we know it and seriously depleted the human population- what would happen? Humans would once again unite and we would (in the end) be governed by these same tribal principles because otherwise, society wouldn't work and everyone would be an outcast, and no one would survive. We would see a return of hunters, gatherers, craftsmen, warriors, healers and priests. We would see the base levels of civilization return, and with that, these guiding principles. I don't know, that doesn't sound too terribly bad.
So, um, anyways, that's just some rambling thoughts for the moment.
